about

This is a decision-based game, for ages 6+. Players are tasked with developing policies to ensure their region is fully sustainable by the year 2050 based only on the available local resources. We ask participants: What would you be willing to sacrifice for a sustainable, resilient future?

Game Play

The game starts in the year 2020, and is played over four rounds, each round comprising a decade (2020, 2030, 2040, and finally, the year 2050) Players are assigned to a region in the world and are provided the city’s: (i) Datasheet: containing your boardgame’s natural resources initial condition and (ii) Sustainability goals: providing what level each natural resource needs to get to, (these goals are evaluated at the end of the 2030 and 2050 rounds).

Each round consists of your team creating policies that will help reach your city’s sustainability goals. The number of policies you can make each round depends on your city’s current GDP and environmental footprint.

BEWARE: there are consequences for not reaching your goals and natural or human-made disasters are possible, their impact will vary based on your policy decisions!

Current regions in the game play:

  1. London, UK

  2. Dubai, AE

  3. Porto Velho, BR

  4. Cape Town, ZA

  5. Ho Chi Minh City, VN

NOTE: We recommend a group of 5-6 players per region, allowing the game to be played for up to 30 people. However, this is flexible and not all regions need to be played. In our experience, we find collaboration to be more important in the learning experience than region diversity.
